Women are not in love with me but with the picture of me on the screen. I am merely the canvas upon which the women paint their dreams.
Oh, why did he have to see the camera? WHY?
I can completely understand why so many women were crazy about him. He was so unlike any other man who had been on screen before, unlike any man who had been in the public eye before. Whilst I don’t think he’d have had a great career beyond the silents, I so wish he’d been able to live at least a few more years. But then without the death there would not be the legend.

You can just photoshop my face onto hers.
I think every woman with a brain wants to be in her place.

Richard, I tried to stay away. I thought I would never see you again, that you were out of my life. The day you left Paris, if you knew what I went through. If you knew how much I loved you, how much I still love you.
“Now I’m alone. My head throbs and my temples are burning. Perhaps God has been kind, and I too have caught the fever. If this letter reaches you, believe this - that I love you now as I’ve always loved you. My life can be measured by the moments I’ve had with you and our child. If only you could have shared those moments, if only you could have recognized what was always yours, could have found what was never lost. If only…” - Letter from an Unknown Woman, 1948
This is the only 40s film I can think of where both the lead stars are still living. Let me know if you think of any others!

One of my all-time favourite onscreen kisses. And one of my all-time favourite movies - I watched it six or seven times after I first saw it when I bought it on DVD for $1. Best $1 I have ever spent.
I think Laura is the best dressed character in the history of cinema.
