“I know I must conceal my sentiments: I must smother hope; I must remember that he cannot care much for me. For when I say that I am of his kind, I do not mean that I have his force to influence, and his spell to attract: I mean only that I have certain tastes and feelings in common with him.I must, then, repeat continually that we are forever sundered: - and yet, while I breathe and think, I must love him.”

Emma (2009)
The absolute most adorable Miss Harriet Smith I’ve ever seen. I want to see this girl in more things, why have I not seen her in anything else? She’s too too cute.
Jane Eyre (2006)
Best Jane Eyre adaptation ever. And definitely the best Rochester. A bad Rochester is the one thing that really puts me off an adaptation, more than a bad Jane.
In the 2009 version of Emma with Romola Garai. This is the scene where Emma throws a party for Mrs. E (I squeed when I saw her), anyways she turns her head to talk to THE Jane Fairfax and lo-and-behold there is an orange streak. DO YOU SEE IT?! It looks like it’s dyed or at least is an extension put in but it could be a ribbon; either way I don’t think it’s period.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?!?!?
It’s definitely a ribbon - she’s wearing everything orange so it makes sense she’d also wear an orange hair ribbon. I don’t know if this way of wearing a ribbon is particularly period accurate (I’m better with 1830s hair) but I know they were used a lot to emulate a Classical look. I fail to see why it wouldn’t have been done really. But I am more than happy to be proven wrong!
Jasmine Bligh, television continuity announcer in the 30s & 40s and the first person to speak on BBC television after WWII.
The star of the new Upstairs, Downstairs, Claire Foy. She’s magificent.
So proud of the BBC :) Makes my life. So many great shows (both TV and radio) in this video dating back fifty years.
