The beautiful library in my city reopens in September. It’s been closed for refurbishment all the time I’ve lived here and I’m so excited to be able to go inside. It’s the most amazing Arts and Crafts building and the money was donated to the city (he left £60,000 in his will to the city, a huge amount in the late 19th century) by a resident of Melbourne who had been born in Canterbury. Quoth Wikipedia: ‘His bequest was left for “the erection and endowment of an institute for working men”’
